14 Months

Hey there little one,

You have grown and developed and changed by leaps and bounds in this past month. So much that I'm having troubles remembering everything and I don't know where to begin this update really. But these are the chronicles of the most precious times of your life and so I'm going to try. Here goes :)

You have gotten more and more confident with your sign language usage and your vocabulary continues to grow by the day. Unfortunately, you are still trapped in a baby's body and despite your best efforts, your body can't seem to respond the way you want it to yet.

For instance, you have been trying to sign "bird" to me whenever we look at your picture book and you see birds, or when we are out for our walk and you see the seagulls. But you can't yet manipulate your fingers to purposefully press your index finger and thumb together repeatedly at your mouth (to indicate a birds little beak), so you end up clenching your whole fist instead, just like your "bye bye" or "milk" signs. To everyone else, it may look like you don't know your signs yet. But mommy and daddy knows exactly what you are trying to tell us because we observe your signing and watch for the context and intention in your eyes and body language. Rest assured that one day, you will be able to sign accurately, once your body catches up with your amazing little brain.

It's shocking how thirsty you are for knowledge. You are so eager to learn new signs and you make it very clear and challenging for mommy to keep up. You pick up your picture books and bring it to mommy, signing "read" and "book" and sitting in my lap, waiting for me to read to you. And with every thing I name in the book, you look at me, waiting to see if I would teach you a new hand sign to go with the picture you see. If I do, you immediately try repeating it back to me with your own chubby little hands. And then you ask to go through it over and over again. If I don't, mostly because I myself don't know the right sign, you look just a tad bit disappointed and confused. So I'm trying, my dear son. I'm trying very hard to keep up with you. Fact is, mommy doesn't know it all. And I can't learn as fast and as well as you do. But you don't need to know that yet ;)

You are starting to really exert your individuality and independence, testing your boundaries and pushing our buttons. You have discovered the power of "no" and you are most certainly not afraid to use it.

You still have no clue what stranger danger means. When we take you out on your daily walk-about, you run up to random strangers and shake their hands, or ask to be carried. You are so confident and sociable, and I don't think people know how to respond to that. They get scared I think ;)

You ate durian for the first time this month and you were at first eager. Then when you tasted it the first time, you were curious. Then you took a bigger bite and scrunched up your face like it was gross. Then you went back for more. We had a good laugh about that ;)

You started swim classes this month too. First lesson was a big fat FAIL. You screamed in my arms like you were being tortured the whole time. 30 minutes. Without stopping for a break whatsoever. I was scared that I would be scarring you for life by bringing you back the following week. But after a casual dip in our apartment complex pool with daddy over the weekend, the next lesson was a breeze. You gained confidence about being in the water with mommy, and saved me from having to deal with staring parents and children at the pool because of your screaming for another week :)

Music classes has started back up again for a new term and you are LOVING it. Particularly when you get to run up to the teacher and sit in her lap.

You now have 8 teeth. EIGHT TEETH! It took a while for teeth to start appearing and now that they have, they are just relentlessly popping out, one after another.

You love other children, running after them and trying to get involved in whatever they are doing whenever you see them around. This makes me think that you will be a wonderful big brother to a little sibling one day :) And you don't seem to be the sort to get jealous when mommy and daddy is around other children, so hopefully that will be the same when the day comes that you will have to share us with another little baby. Someday.

We spent a lot of quality time out and about, getting to know more about nature this month, taking advantage of nice summer weather. For instance, the children's farm:

The beach:

And some of my other favorite photos of you this month:

 Taste testing mommy's pasta sauce

All I did was go to the bathroom for a few minutes!

We had to re-think the shoe cabinet when I turned around from the computer and saw this one day. Too dangerous my dear...

I think you would make a pretty little baby girl too ;)

;)

This is you after your nap - first thing you ask for is "more" and "read"

Nice bed head ;)

This month's videos:

As you can probably already tell, it is MUCH easier for me to take videos of this dynamo than to take pictures. He is constantly MOVING and taking a picture is simply impossible. All I get is just blurry images. Videos tell the story MUCH better.

Anyway. 14 months was fun. 15 months seem to be pretty fun so far too. Happy 14 months (and a bit), baby boy. Love you, love you, love you!

Hugs and kisses,
Mommy <3
