X is 12 weeks old today.
I'm busy with my online scavenger hunt (free baby goodies up for grabs, why not?) so just a quick stop to make sure I write down a few new things before life takes over and we forget.
Last week, it felt like someone did a quick switcheroo with my sweet newborn baby boy.
I woke up one morning, and he no longer sounded like my newborn baby.
No more distinct cries to tell me what he needs.
Instead, he developed this "scream".
aaAAAAHHHhhhhhh!
Ok that doesn't really describe it properly.
But it's basically a scream that pierces your ear and just simply means "someone come! listen to me! give me what I need!!!"
At the same time, his baby babbles have changed too.
No more breathy sounding vowels like how he said hello to us.
Now they come from the back of his throat,
they are loud and sharp.
Lots of ga-gas and a-goos.
Funny :p
Since Monday (yeah I can pin point the exact day since I care for him exclusively each day),
he discovered that his fists taste pretty yummy.
Before his hand movement were jerky and uncoordinated.
So he couldn't bring his hands to where he wanted them to be.
They just flailed all over the place.
But all of a sudden,
on Monday,
he discovered that he can actually bring his fists to his mouth.
Not only that, but he could stick his tongue out and lick it.
First few times, he simply balked at the taste.
Then he accidentally stuck his fingers into his mouth and scratched his gums.
That made him cry cos it hurt.
Silly boy.
Then he stuck them down further and he gagged.
Haha!
Now he's perfected the art - clench the fist and suck on the knuckles.
No one gets hurt this way.
So super duper frustrating though, especially at bed time and his hands are constrained in his sleeping bag and he still insists on sucking on his fist.
That makes for pretty gross saliva-soaked sleeping bags.
Gah.
But even more frustrating is that he is refusing the pacifier at bed time in favour for his fists.
What gives?
The fist doesn't put him to sleep, the pacifier does!
And I need him to sleep!
Speaking of pacifiers.
We had to go out and get 3-6 month sized ones.
It's like overnight, he started getting uber frustrated with his newborn ones.
They were getting too small for him to suck on satisfactorily.
He would suck, the paci would fall out and he would scream in frustration.
Sigh.
My newborn baby is no more.
Hey there little one,
I'm glad you're growing and developing so well.
But don't grow up too fast on mummy and daddy ok?
You're still our little baby.
Happy 12 weeks old, sweet baby boy.
Oh my heart.
Ok back to the hunt.
Be back soon!
;)
